shox powers Epsilon to beat HR
Epsilon came from behind to beat HellRaisers 2-1 and progress to the grand final of DreamHack Valencia (9-16 on de_mirage, 16-11 on de_inferno, 16-0 on de_dust2).
Following HellRaisers' close game against Outbreak, many wrote the Ukrainian team's chances off, and the defeat against Epsilon, particularly the 0-16 thrashing on de_dust2, proved that not all is well with Null element's side, even though they gave a good account of themselves on de_mirage.
HR, who started out on the CT side, got off to a flying start and strolled to an impressive 10-1 lead, with Epsilon looking completely helpless in their offensive moves. The Frenchmen managed to respond only in the latter stages of the first half and picked up three more rounds as they trailed HR 4-11.
In the second half, HellRaisers further enlarged their lead by winning the pistol round following an A rush that Epsilon could do nothing against. HR followed it up by taking the first anti-eco round, but then two Ukrainian players were downed by the Frenchmen's CZ75s, which ultimately led to Epsilon pulling one back.
Epsilon still managed to take the game to 9-13, and just when many were thinking that a comeback was in the making, HR regained control of the match and took the last three rounds they needed.
HellRaisers beat Epsilon on de_mirage
On de_inferno, Epsilon came out the brighter and won the pistol round after retaking the B site with the bomb planted. HR failed to plant the bomb in the first eco round, but that did not stop them from going for a full buy in the third round, a strategy that bore fruits as they ran riot in A.
HR went on to win two more rounds, but in gun play Epsilon really looked like the stronger side, as Null element's side took four rounds in a row to make it 6-3 in their favour. Null element then won a 1-on-2 situation to put his team back in the race. The Ukrainian team then levelled the match on six rounds, but the final three rounds of the first half went Epsilon's way.
Epsilon managed to pick up where they had left off and added three more rounds to their tally after winning the pistol round thanks to a B rush. The first gun round went to HR, who stopped Epsilon's A split, but that very same strategy proved to be successful during their second attempt.
A double from Null element in the banana and a triple from Null element in the mid section finally broke Epsilon's momentum and allowed HR to get within three rounds of their opponents, but that did little in the way of stopping the Frenchmen, with Null element sealing an empathic 16-11 with a triple kill in B in the last round.
Just another day for shox
Both teams then moved on to de_dust2, and simply no one expected what was about to happen. Richard "shox" Papillon put in a world-class display, getting 30 kills to his name in just 16 rounds as Epsilon ran out 16-0 victors, this way sending HellRaisers home and setting up a final against the winner of the match between LDLC.com and k1ck.
